Mark Zuckerberg, owner of social media firm Meta, has launched his new app Threads. The app links to Instagram, which is being called the 'Twitter killer', as it is also a text-based communication app. Users can log into the thread using their Instagram account. Users who follow them on Instagram can also follow them on Thread.

The Threads app can be downloaded for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in over 100 countries. People can publish thread posts of up to 500 characters. People can also share links, photos and videos on this app. Videos can be up to 5 minutes. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri said Twitter's "instability" and "uncertainty" under Elon Musk gave Meta an opportunity to compete with Twitter.

The thread is also getting good response from users. Within four hours of its launch, 5 million users had signed up. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself revealed that Threads crossed 10 million sign-ups in the first 7 hours of launch!
