All is not going well in India's neighboring country China. There is a state of conflict between President Xi Jinping and China's powerful military. In fact, Xi Jinping is telling his military to prepare for World War III. But the army has something else to believe. In such a situation, Xi Jinping has started retrenchment in the army. Xi Jinping is the head of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China.
In fact, the PLA is the armed wing of China's ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The PLA works under the Central Military Commission (CMC). The CMC is chaired by the PLA Commander-in-Chief, who is Xi Jinping himself. But Xi Jinping is not getting the support of top army commanders.
A commander standing against the will of Xi Jinping
Business Insider quoted military analysts as saying that Xi Jinping is fighting China's own army. They are trying to remove commanders who they believe are
incapable of going to war. The report said the commanders were opposed to Xi Jinping's willingness to go to war.
The report quotes Gordon Chang, senior fellow at the Gatestone Institute and author of 'China is Going'. Chang says Chinese leaders are "trying to take control of the military, and I think they're thinking that they need officers who are actually ready to fight a war." He believes that the spirit of not getting into the trouble of war is developing in the Chinese army. Chang said Xi Jinping is leading an army that is indecisive about going to war.
Nine senior officials were sacked in one fell swoop
Xi Jinping took power in China in 2012. After assuming power, Xi Jinping's main agenda has been to develop China's military on American lines. In this regard, he made many reforms in the Chinese army and promoted military-civilian cooperation. Last year, on December 29, 2023, Xi Jinping fired nine senior officials in one fell swoop.
Many experts, including American intelligence reports, believe that Xi Jinping has taken these steps to root out corruption in the military and has also abruptly dismissed many other Chinese officials. However, Chang believes otherwise. "If corruption was an issue, they would all have been fired," he said, adding that Xi Jinping may be removing officials who were unwilling to go to war.
To reinforce his point, he cited Chinese Air Force General Liu Yazhou. According to AsiaNews Agency, Liu Yazhou warned China against attacking Taiwan. Later, China sentenced him to death in February 2022.
The report also includes a statement from a professor of Chinese military affairs at the US National Defense University. Rooting out corruption and preparing China for war is the same thing, says Senior Research Fellow Joel Wuthno. He said, “The expulsion of military officers indicates that Xi Jinping has failed in his reform policies. They are worried that the investment they have made over a decade in military personnel and weapons is failing." Wuthno said the nine senior commanders who have been removed were involved in China's rocket force. This force will play an important role in any military operation.
Talk about the Third World War
China is one of the countries in the world that has bad relations with almost every neighboring country. China has developed enmity with many of its closest neighbors. China has border disputes with several countries including India in the disputed Himalayan region, Japan in the East China Sea, the Philippines and Taiwan in the South China Sea. China has made several incursions into Taiwan's air-defense zone in the past five years. US Navy and Air Force officials have said that China will attack Taiwan in the next few years.
Experts believe that the conditions for the third world war are being created. Chang said many countries in the world are already on the battlefield. He also mentioned the war in Ukraine, insurgencies in Africa, Israel's war against Hamas in Gaza, and military activity in the Red Sea, Persian Gulf, and Indian Ocean. He said, “Remember, there were different wars in the 1930s. Now we call it World War II.” He said that the same is happening even today. He said, “The situation exists today, and World War 3 is entirely possible.
Some may even argue that these conflicts will soon escalate into global upheaval.” He predicted that if China attacked in East Asia, the West would have to join in. Let us tell you that three days ago, the hashtag "WWIII" started trending on social media platform X (Twitter) after the attack by America and Britain against Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
