T20 World Cup 2024: Threat of terror attack on India-Pakistan match, increased security in New York

There are 3 venues in America for the T20 World Cup 2024, out of which New York is going to host a cricket match for the first time. For this, a temporary stadium has been prepared in Eisenhower Park, Nassau County, New York State. With a capacity of around 30 thousand spectators, Team India will play 4 matches including practice matches in this stadium, the most special of which is the India-Pakistan match on June 9.

This match will gather the largest crowd. The maximum number of spectators is expected for this match and hence the security risk will be highest during this time.

The threat of 'lone wolf' attacks

According to a report by Times of India, ISIS-K has only threatened the India-Pakistan match. The group released a threatening video and asked its assailants to carry out a 'lone wolf' attack (one attacker) on the India-Pakistan match, after which the Nassau County Police Department went on extra alert.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder was quoted as saying that every type of threat is taken seriously when such an incident occurs and there are such large crowds, but in recent times it has focused on the India-Pakistan cricket match.

Demand to create no fly zone
