Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, February 27, announced the names of the astronauts who will be sent on the Gaganyaan mission. Today, February 28, Wednesday, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of ISRO's second spaceport at Kulsekarapattinam in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu. Small satellites made by the private sector will be launched at the second spaceport. Currently, ISRO has a space station. Satish Dhawan Space Center located in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Spacecraft is considered a boon to Tamil Nadu's science and technology sector. Then know what is the specialty of this spacecraft?

How different is the new spaceport from Satish Dhawan?

According to information, the new spaceport will cover 2000 acres and promote growth and development in Thoothukudi district. Launching rockets from Thoothukudi will be much cheaper, as until now all PSSV rockets launched into polar orbit had to pass over neighboring Sri Lanka after leaving Sriharikota, but this diversion will not be necessary with the launch of the new spacecraft.

If launched from here, the rocket will have to reduce the journey by about 780 km. Isro's propulsion complex is located at Mahendragiri, which is just 88 km from Kulsekaranpattinam. Then the complex is 780 km away from Sriharikota. Thoothukudi is very close to the equator. So after the launch of the rocket, the satellite will not have to go around the earth much to reach its orbit. So time will be saved and the cost of fuel will also be reduced.

What is the objective of ISRO?

ISRO plans to launch small satellites on a commercial basis from the Kulsekarpattinam spaceport. Small satellites from Sriharikota cost more to launch, as the rocket has to travel a long distance. This consumes more fuel, which reduces the payload capacity of the rocket. A new spaceport will solve this problem. Scientists predict that many industries will also come into the state and thousands of jobs will be created, which will benefit Thoothukudi district.
