India has not become an Olympic giant
India is yet to become an Olympic giant despite being the world's most populous country with a population of over 1.4 billion. Sure, Paris 2024 has fielded 117 athletes in 16 events, but 10 gold medals have been won so far in 25 Summer Olympics. The foundation, headed by Nita Ambani, is helping several national champions, including Jyoti Yarraji, the first Indian woman to cross the 100-meter hurdles in under 13 seconds. Jyoti Yarraji trained at the High Performance Center, one of Reliance Foundation's three sports facilities, and the foundation also supports the academic and sports training of over 22 million young Indians across the country. Nita Ambani Says “We Are Becoming A Multi-Sports Nation”
Cricket will make its debut at the Olympics
Referring to Neeraj Chopra who won the gold medal in javelin throw in Tokyo, he said that at that time 60 million countrymen followed Chopra on screen. Cricket can be said to be the most popular sport in India as people worship it like a religion. Nita Ambani owns Premier League club Mumbai Indians and Reliance Group owns five clubs worldwide. Cricket will make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. This will be a golden opportunity for India.
A key feature of the Asian giant
"We have a population of 1.4 billion people, which is a very young population," asserts Nita Ambani. Two out of every three Indians are below 35 years of age. The chairperson of Reliance Foundation said, “In the last four to five years, the country's infrastructure has improved significantly, thanks to Prime Minister Modi. Earlier even traveling to India was difficult, joining a training center was an ordeal for youngsters. Today it is very easy to get from the village to the city and the sports facilities have increased a lot.”
