Yesterday, Monday, the average price of 1 quintal onion increased from Rs 1,280 to Rs 1,800. In which the minimum price was Rs 1,000 and the maximum price was Rs 2,100 per quintal. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution announced on December 11, 2023 that the export of onion has been banned from December 8, 2023 to March 31, 2024 to ensure that domestic consumers can get onions at cheaper prices.
Onion purchase from farmers will continue
The central government said that it is monitoring the availability and prices of onion crop to take necessary measures in the interest of both the common people and the farmers. Onion will continue to be purchased from farmers for price stability so that they too do not suffer.
Onion prices may increase in the coming days
As for the government price of onion, on February 18, the average price on the Consumer Affairs Department's website was Rs 29.83 per kg. which reached Rs 32.26 on February 19. That is, the average price of onion increased by 2.43 rupees per kg within 24 hours. According to the informants, onion prices may increase in the coming days.
According to media reports, a few days ago garlic prices in Uttar Pradesh rose above Rs 550 and garlic prices increased in many cities. The price of garlic in Uttar Pradesh is Rs 500-550 per kg. Good quality garlic is being sold at Rs 220 to 240 in the wholesale market.
