New rules will come into force in Abu Dhabi from June 1, eating and drinking will become difficult

UAE, well known around the world for its high-rise buildings and luxury living, nowadays many countries in the Gulf, including Abu Dhabi, are facing environmental changes. Sometimes it is very hot here, sometimes due to heavy rains, flood-like conditions are being created. Rapid modernization in the Gulf countries, including Abu Dhabi, has led to many problems. Now the government of Abu Dhabi has started taking drastic measures to stop this.

The Department of Environment and Economic Development of Abu Dhabi, the largest emirate of the UAE, announced that single-use Styrofoam products will be banned in Abu Dhabi from June 1. Styrofoam products include single-use cups, lids, plates, beverage containers, and food containers. These products are considered to be the main cause of increasing marine pollution.

96 percent reduction in single use plastic

The Abu Dhabi Single Use Plastic Policy was implemented in May 2020. Under the policy, a ban on the sale of single-use plastic bags at all retailers was implemented from June 1, 2022. After which the use of these bags has reduced by 95%.

Other UAE emirates have also implemented bans on single-use plastic items. The ban in Sharjah began on January 1, 2024, and the emirate announced on April 22 that the production of plastic bags in their country had been completely stopped.

Heavy penalties for violators of the law

Dubai also announced a ban on single-use plastics from January 1, 2024. If caught using it can be fined up to 21 thousand Indian rupees. It may be mentioned here that in 2023 a proposal was passed to ban single use plastic in all 7 emirates of UAE. After which the use of single-use plastics in the country has decreased rapidly, now the UAE is going to completely ban such products.
