Qualcomm has confirmed that it is working with Reliance Jio to launch a new 5G Jio phone in India soon. This will be the first time a Jio phone will be available with a Qualcomm chipset. The American chip maker will launch this smartphone in India at a price as low as Rs 9,000. This entry-level phone is announced to be launched by the end of this year.

In a statement, Qualcomm's SVP said that with the new chipset, we want to offer 5G services to consumers looking for an affordable smartphone. Qualcomm officials are encouraging 2G users in India to switch to smartphones with 5G connectivity. They said that India's R&D teams are currently working hard to manufacture the chipset.

During the 45th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries in August 2022, Mukesh Ambani announced a partnership between Reliance Jio and Qualcomm to develop 5G products not only for India but for the entire world. Earlier in January 2024, the chip maker said it would invest ₹177.27 crore to set up a design center in Chennai. Let us tell you that Qualcomm has development centers in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Noida in India.

The price of this 5G smartphone of Jio can be 99 dollars i.e. about 8 to 9 thousand rupees. The current cheapest 5G smartphone comes at a price of Rs 9,999. Just like Jio's 4G smartphone, this 5G smartphone will be especially aimed at users who use basic feature phones even in the age of smartphones.

Jio launched the JioPhone 4G feature phone in 2016 which gained immense popularity in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. This 5G smartphone of Jio can become popular in those cities as well. The phone can run on PragatiOS developed by Google and Jio.
