The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has extended the deadline for free Aadhaar card updating. This deadline was expiring on June 14, 2024. Now it has been extended for another three months till September 14, 2024.

This means that now Aadhaar holders can change the information entered in Aadhaar within 90 days without paying any money. One thing to note here is that free Aadhaar update can be done online only. You have to pay money to correct any Aadhaar related information by visiting Aadhaar Kendra.

According to information provided on the official website of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), now Aadhaar users can update Aadhaar for free till 14 September 2024.

Aadhaar has become an important document today. It is used in almost every government work. It is also required while opening a bank account and booking train and flight tickets. Demographic details of each individual such as name, gender, address, age and biometric information are recorded in the database.

Is it mandatory to update Aadhaar?

Updating Aadhaar is not mandatory. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has clarified several times that updating Aadhaar is not mandatory. Yes, if the Aadhaar card is old and updated it is in the user's favor only. UID has advised that documents related to proof of identity and proof of address should be updated.

The address or your photograph in the Aadhaar card may be many years old, in such a case, it would be better for you to update it. Yes, if you don't update your 10 year old Aadhaar, Aadhaar will continue to work as before. It will not be blocked or stopped at all.

Aadhaar is updated in two ways

You can update Aadhaar both online and offline. To update the demographic details, you have to upload the required documents. This is how to update Aadhaar online.

How will online details be updated?

  • First of all, log on to the official website of UIDAI https://uidai.gov.in/ .
  • Now go to My Aadhaar Portal on the homepage
  • Log in using Aadhaar number and OTP received on registered mobile number.
  • After this, check your details and tick the correct box if the details are correct.
  • If the demographic information is found to be incorrect, select Identity Document from the drop-down menu and upload the document.
  • This document can be uploaded in JPEG, PNG and PDF format.
