It was further said that Nikhil Gupta was safely detained at the airport in Prague (the capital of the Czech Republic).

The US formed a high-level committee to investigate

Nikhil Gupta was detained at the Prague airport on June 30, 2023 under extradition orders issued by the US Justice Department, Czech Republic Justice Minister Pavel Blazek said in a post. The US State Department has said it has formed a high-level inquiry committee to look into the matter.

The Czech Constitutional Court approved Nikhil Gupta's extradition in May. He has acquitted himself in an American court. He was arrested in the Czech Republic last year at the request of the US government for his involvement in a plot to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu in New York. Gurpatwant Pannu holds both American and Canadian citizenships.

After extradition to America, Nikhil Gupta was produced in a federal court in New York. His lawyer Jeffrey Chebrowe says that Nikhil Gupta has pleaded not guilty in court. US federal prosecutors allege that Gupta was acting on instructions from an unnamed Indian government official. However, India has categorically denied its involvement in such matters.
