Apple cider vinegar is considered very beneficial for our health and skin. Due to the presence of anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties, it can also help control blood sugar. Now a research has also found that it can help in weight loss, lowering blood sugar and lowering blood lipids i.e. cholesterol and triglycerides.
What does the research say?
A group of Lebanese scientists selected overweight and obese people between the ages of 12 and 25 for this research. A group of 30 people is divided into four groups. Participants were asked to drink 5, 10 or 15 ml of apple cider vinegar mixed with 250 ml of water every morning before eating anything for 12 weeks. A control group was given water mixed with a placebo to look and taste the same. The study was conducted in a double-blind manner, that is, neither the participants nor the scientists who collected the data knew who belonged to which group.
What do the results say?
Apple cider vinegar water has been shown to promote weight loss and lower body mass index (BMI) for up to three months. During that period, those who consumed apple cider vinegar lost 6 to 8 kilograms in weight and their BMI decreased from 2.7 to 3. It also has an effect on the fat that appears on their waist and hips.
Additionally, blood glucose, triglyceride and cholesterol levels were also reduced in the apple cider vinegar drinking group. The placebo group that was given lactic acid water lost weight and BMI. But there was no reduction in blood sugar and lipids.
The study was conducted on a group of 12 to 25 years old, so it cannot be said whether the results may be the same for everyone. Also, if this study is repeated, it cannot be said whether exactly the same amount of weight will be lost or not. A placebo was used in the study to create a uniform appearance and to normalize the taste. But the participants were unable to understand and recognize it.
A concern?
- Apple cider vinegar is an acid and therefore can have a negative effect on the surrounding tooth enamel. Excessive consumption of any acidic drinks like lemon water and orange juice can also cause this problem.
- In such cases, many dentists recommend rinsing with plain water and chewing sugar-less gum after drinking such drinks. Also, it is advised to avoid brushing teeth immediately after drinking. Because this can damage the soft layer above the tooth. It is also advised to drink it with a straw.
- Although this research provides evidence of weight loss with apple cider vinegar. But do not consume it without expert advice. Because now it is necessary to study big and well according to every age.
