CBI to file FIR against Mahua Moitra, Lokpal ordered in cash-for-query case

On this order, CBI sources say that a case has not been registered yet, further action will be taken after looking at the order of the Lokpal. Before registering a case DoPT issues an order after which CBI will register the case and start investigation.

The Ombudsman has ordered a CBI probe against TMC leader and MP Mahua Moitra in the cash-for-query case. The CBI has been asked to register a case under IPC 203(a) against Mahua Moitra and submit an investigation within 6 months. Along with this, the order also asked the CBI to inform the Lokpal about the progress of the investigation every month.

In November 2023, the CBI initiated a PE i.e. preliminary investigation on the orders of the Ombudsman and submitted the report to the Ombudsman, after which these orders have been issued. Nishikant Dubey alleged that Mahua Moitra asked questions in Parliament after taking money from businessman Hiranandani.

What did the Lokpal say?

The Lokpal has said in his order that the public representative has more responsibility and burden on his shoulders. Corruption is a disease that is adversely affecting the legislative, administrative, social and economic functioning of this democratic country. It is our duty to make every effort to root out that corruption and corrupt practices.

It is worth mentioning that Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has made Mahua Moitra a candidate for Lok Sabha elections again this time from Krishnanagar seat.
