Popular video streaming platform YouTube has taken massive action across the globe and removed more than 9 million videos. The biggest impact was seen in India where over 22.5 lakh videos were removed from YouTube. Google has taken this action against videos that violate YouTube's community guidelines. These figures are between October to December 2023. The company has informed about the removal of the video in a blog post.

YouTube strike in India

According to Google's transparency report, India had the highest number of videos removed from a total of 30 countries between October and December last year. After this is Singapore in second place. Where 12.4 lakh videos were processed. America is third with 7.8 lakh videos. This video has been removed for violating YouTube's Community Guidelines.

The social media platform said in its post that the policy is enforced through machine learning and human reviewers. If a video is removed due to a violation of the Community Guidelines, it will be removed in its entirety. That means you will not be able to watch that video in any part of the world.

Videos removed from 30 countries

Iraq ranks last in the list of 30 countries with 41,176 video removals. According to YouTube's report, 51.51 percent of videos were removed only when no one had watched them, i.e. they had received zero views. The share of videos with 1 to 10 views was 26.43 percent. Apart from this, there were 1.25 percent videos that got more than 10,000 views.

Harmful and dangerous videos removed

The highest number of harmful and dangerous videos have been deleted. This category accounts for 39.2 percent of the total deleted videos. This was followed by 32.4 percent of videos deleted due to non-compliance with child protection. 7.5 percent violent and 5.5 percent nude videos have been removed.

According to the Google Transparency Report, over 20 million YouTube channels were also deleted due to 2023 spam content, including scams, misleading metadata or thumbnails, videos and comments.
