Along with Gautam Gambhir, 3 new coaches will also be appointed, BCCI will announce soon
Team India head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure ended with India's victory in the T20 World Cup final. Not only Dravid, but also three coaches from his support staff ended their tenures with him. In such a situation, along with the head coach of Team India, 3 new coaches will also be appointed.
Everyone is curious to know who will be the new head coach of Team India. Former veteran opener and World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir is going to be the new coach of the team. His name is yet to be announced, which the BCCI may do in the next few hours. But Team India will not only have Gambhir but three more new coaches, for which the BCCI is going to announce applications soon. In fact, with Team India winning the T20 World Cup, the tenure of not only Rahul Dravid but also three of his supporting staff has ended, whose place will be filled by the BCCI.
Coach Rahul Dravid's tenure ends
Head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure comes to an end as Team India wins the T20 World Cup 2024 title. Dravid had already made it clear before the World Cup that he would not be the coach of Team India after this tournament. Anyway, Dravid's tenure ended with the ODI World Cup final last year, but at Rohit Sharma's insistence, he was retained till the T20 World Cup.
Application for new support staff
Like every time, this time also the tenure of the head coach along with his support staff i.e. batting coach, bowling coach and fielding coach will also end. To support Dravid in the current coaching setup, there is batting coach Vikram Rathore, bowling coach Paras Mhambare and fielding coach T Dileep. Like Dravid, all three were given extensions till the T20 World Cup. A report claims that BCCI will soon release applications for support staff as well. As per BCCI policy, existing coaches can also reapply. However, it is not clear whether the current coaching staff will reapply.
Gambhir will get freedom
However, it has also been claimed that Gambhir will have the freedom to choose his support staff if he becomes the coach. Team India is currently on a tour of Zimbabwe, where National Cricket Academy head VVS Laxman and his assistant coach are part of Team India. After this tour, the Indian team will travel to Sri Lanka, where the T20 and ODI series will be played. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah has already announced that the new head coach of Team India will take over his duties from this tour.
