A major decision by United World Wrestling, lifting the ban on the Wrestling Federation of India

The Disciplinary Chamber decided that there were sufficient grounds to impose a suspension, as this had been the case in the federation for at least six months.

United World Wrestling met on February 9 to review the suspension. After considering all the issues, it was decided to lift the suspension. Now the WFI has to hold re-election of its Athletes Commission. Candidates for this commission should be active athletes. While the athletes who have retired four or more years back will not be able to contest the election. These elections will be held during trials or any senior national championship. This election has to be organized before 1 July 2024.

The WFI shall immediately give a written undertaking to the UWW that all wrestlers will be considered for participation in all WFI events especially the Olympic Games and any other major national and international events without any discrimination. UWW is in contact with the wrestlers and will contact them in the coming days. Now Indian wrestlers will be able to compete in events under their country's flag at upcoming UWW events. Under the suspension, Indian wrestlers had to compete under the UWW flag.

The chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, was removed from the post due to allegations of sexual exploitation of women wrestlers and aggressive protests by the wrestlers. After the victory of Sanjay Singh's panel close to Brijbhushan Sharan Singh in the elections of Wrestling Federation of India held recently, the wrestlers started a huge protest. After that, Sanjay Singh's recognition was revoked by removing the new body of Wrestling Federation of India by the Ministry of Sports.
