What is the population of the village?
About 4,000 people live in the village where the landslide occurred. Serhan Aktoprak, a UN official, said the area affected by the landslide was the size of three to four football fields. Ectoprak said that some houses in the village have been saved from the landslide. After the landslide, relief and rescue operations have been started.
People are still trapped in the rubble
Ectoprak said that the landslide not only destroyed houses, but also uprooted trees. Farms have been washed away and there are still reports of people trapped under the debris. They are being removed. Papua New Guinea Defense Minister Billy Joseph and director of the government's National Disaster Center Lasso Mana arrived at the scene on Sunday.
