Hanumanji is worshiped in the form of a squirrel

Shri Gilharaj Mandir of Hanumanji on the banks of Achal Tal lake is known worldwide. There are more than 50 temples around here but the beliefs of Gilharaj Ji Temple are different and more. This temple is known as a religious place only. It is believed that this is the only temple in India where Lord Hanuman is worshiped in the form of a squirrel.

According to religious texts, while Lord Ramji was constructing the Ram Setu Bridge, Lord Shri Ram asked Lord Hanuman to rest for some time but Hanumanji did not rest. He assumed the form of a squirrel and helped Ramsena in building a bridge. Lord Rama saw Hanumanji in the form of a squirrel and turned his hand on him, after which the same line of Lord's hand formed on the squirrel's back which can be seen even today.

Hanuman appeared in a dream

Mahant Kailash Nath of Gilharaj Mandir said that this symbol of Shri Gilharaj Ji Maharaj was first discovered by archer 'Shri Mahendranath Yogiji Maharaj' who was a Siddha Sant. It is said that Sri Mahendranath Yogiji met Maharaj Hanumanji in a dream and said that I am on Achal Tal, worship me there. When they went there and searched, they found many squirrels on the pile of mud, when they dug, the idol was found there. This idol was of Hanumanji in the form of a squirrel. Since then this idol was installed in the temple and worshiped.

This temple is said to be very ancient. During the Mahabharata period, Lord Krishna's brother Dauji Maharaj first worshiped Hanumanji in the form of a squirrel at Achal Tal. This is the only symbol in the Achal Tal temple in the whole world where Lord Hanuman's eye is visible.
