Nothing done for Tamil Nadu… PM Modi attacks DMK over Kachchativu after Congress

Prime Minister Modi attacked the DMK over Kachativu island. In fact the report today revealed that the then CM of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi knew about this agreement and agreed to it. On which PM Modi said that they have harmed the interests of our poor fishermen and fisherwomen.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday lashed out at the Congress for handing over India's Kachchativu island to Sri Lanka and today the PM attacked the DMK (Dravid Munnetra Kazhagam). The PM said that apart from making statements, DMK has done nothing to protect the interests of Tamil Nadu.

In fact, recently a report has surfaced under Right to Information (RTI) which has revealed how the Indian island of Kachchativu was handed over to Sri Lanka in the year 1974 during the Congress government.

M Karunanidhi was aware of this agreement

PM Modi further said in this matter that the new details revealed on Kachativu have completely exposed the double standards of DMK. In fact another report has surfaced which shows that the then Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi was aware of this agreement and agreed with Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to hand over Kachchativu to Sri Lanka.

What did the PM say?

Attacking Congress and DMK, PM Modi said that Congress and DMK are a family unit. They only care that their own sons and daughters advance. They don't care about anyone else. Their insensitivity on Kachativu Island has hurt the interests of our poor fishermen and fisherwomen in particular.

What came out about the DMK?

In 1974, when the Congress was in power, the Indira Gandhi-led government gave Sri Lanka the island of Kachchativu to India on an agreement that Indian fishermen could go there, but the agreement was needed two years later. Rights were taken from the surrounding areas to give that island to India and its fishermen.

After which it has now come out in the RTI report that the then Tamil Nadu CM M Karunanidhi was aware of this agreement and agreed to it. The report also said that the CM was aware of the agreement even before his cabinet ministers.
