India will host Asian Weightlifting for the first time, with Gujarat coming forward to host

India is hosting the Asian Weightlifting Championship for the first time. Gujarat has come forward to hold this championship. This championship will be organized in Ahmedabad or later in Gandhinagar in 2026.

According to Indian Weightlifting Federation President Sahdev Yadav, during the Asian Championships held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan), he made a bid for Asian Weightlifting, which was approved.

On Monday, he proposed the championship to the Chief Secretary of the Gujarat government Ashwani Kumar, which was accepted. The Gujarat government assured that all the expenses of the championship would be borne by it. Which includes bid cost of 50 thousand US dollars.

India was supposed to hold this championship in 2018 but could not be organized. Till now Senior Asian weightlifting was not organized in the country. Sahedev says that after this championship, bids will be made for the 2027 World Championship.
