Google and Microsoft to lay off 100 employees from Google Cloud unit

Alphabet-owned Google will lay off at least 100 employees from some teams in its cloud unit. According to a media report, Google's internal correspondence reveals that several key roles related to sales, operations-engineering, consulting and market-strategy have been cut.

We will maintain our commitment to invest in areas that are critical to our business and ensure our long-term success. The report comes after major layoffs across teams in April.

The layoffs at Azure for operators are reported to involve up to 1,500 jobs. The company has not publicly disclosed the specific reasons behind the layoffs. The affected employees are part of a unit that is integral to Microsoft's expansion into cloud computing.

Jobs may be offered in India and Mexico

According to sources, it is being claimed that some of the employees laid off by Google may be given jobs in India and Mexico. Around 200 core team members were let go by Google before the first quarter results came out. On April 25, the company announced its first quarter results.
