Congress MP Rahul Gandhi got a big shock on Friday. The Jharkhand High Court has rejected his petition in the defamation case. The case is related to making objectionable remarks on Home Minister Amit Shah. Rahul Gandhi reached the High Court against the summons issued by the lower court. After hearing both sides, the court reserved its decision. While ruling on the petition, the court rejected it.

Last month, the Jharkhand High Court sought records of the lower court hearing Rahul Gandhi's petition. The petition sought quashing of the order passed by the Ranchi district court in a defamation case filed by a BJP worker over Gandhi's alleged derogatory remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The complaint was filed in 2018

BJP leader Naveen Jha filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi in a court in Ranchi on 28 April 2018. He alleged that on 18 March 2018, in the Congress plenary, Rahul Gandhi had given a speech against the BJP and accused Shah of murder. The complaint said that the statement made by Gandhi is not only false but is an insult to all the workers, supporters and leaders who are selflessly working for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

After this, the Magistrate Court of Ranchi rejected Jha's complaint. After this he filed a Criminal Revision Petition before the Judicial Commissioner, Ranchi.

What did Rahul Gandhi answer in the court?

Thereafter, the Magistrate was directed to re-examine the evidence on record and pass a fresh order. Consequently, the Magistrate took cognizance and issued summons on November 28, 2018.

After this, Rahul Gandhi petitioned the High Court on 15 September 2018 to quash the revision order promulgated by the Ranchi Judicial Commissioner. The case was heard on May 16, 2023 before a single bench of Justice Ambuj Nath. During the hearing, Rahul Gandhi argued that the petitioner cannot be considered a victim in the case.
