The company is making this plan
Google's parent company Alphabet will also start manufacturing drones in the state through its subsidiary Wing LLC. The company currently provides drone delivery services to businesses in the United States, Europe and Australia through a fleet of lightweight, autonomous delivery drones. A Tamil Nadu delegation led by state Industries Minister TRB Raja and other officials met Google officials in the United States a few weeks ago, sources said.
However, the number of new jobs this will create is yet to be revealed. Google is also in talks with local contract manufacturer Dixon to manufacture Pixel smartphones in the country, multiple media reports revealed last week.
Every 7th iPhone is now made in India
The development comes at a time when Google's rival Apple is rapidly ramping up domestic production of its flagship iPhone devices in India. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has assembled $14 billion worth of iPhones in the country in fiscal 2024. The company now makes about 14 percent or 1 in 7 iPhones in India.

Google first announced its intention to manufacture Pixel smartphones locally in India starting with the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October 2023. At the time, without disclosing any specifics, Google said it was in discussions with domestic and international manufacturers for local production of its premium smartphones. The company said the initiative will help them make Pixel smartphones more widely available across the country, with the first devices expected to launch sometime in 2024.
