Budget 2024: The NDA government under the leadership of PM Modi has come to power for the third consecutive time after taking oath with its cabinet. This time there are many things on which Modi government will have special focus. Narendra Modi 3.0 will focus on making health treatment and health infrastructure affordable and available at all levels.

Not only this, special attention will also be given to expansion of cheap diagnostic facilities and testing centres. The Digital Health Mission will be one of the priorities of the government as the mission is taking forward the Ayushman Bharat Abhiyan. The government will also focus on linking data at all levels including the private sector, state or central government health institutions.

Health insurance will be made cheaper

Efforts will be made to launch the National Claim Exchange Portal as soon as possible to streamline and fast track the exchange portal for health insurance claim settlement. Health insurance will be made cheaper and Ayushman Bharat cover will be further expanded. It was also said in the BJP's election manifesto that all people above 70 years of age will be given a cover of Rs 5 lakh under the PM Swasthya Bima Yojana.

The minister in charge of the health ministry will have the challenges of completing the yet to be completed AIIMS in many parts of the country, including building AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir. The government wants to create world class AIIMS in every state.

Medicines standards will improve

Medicines manufactured in India are facing criticism across the world. There are cases where some countries have stopped importing medicines from India. The government wants to improve the standards and improve the image of the country in front of the world as we supply medicines all over the world. The biggest challenge before the Health Minister will be to provide basic health infrastructure.

Food quality problem

Many pending infrastructure projects in the pipeline are still on track for implementation. Another major challenge for the new health minister will be the issue of quality of food sold in India. FSSAI i.e. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has faced heavy criticism. FSSAI regulates the production, storage, distribution, sale and import of food products and also establishes standards for food safety in India.

However, the government has taken very limited steps to address these issues. The new minister will have to pay special attention to these issues which have a direct impact on public health.
