Baba Ramdev apologized on misleading advertisement issue, SC said - this apology is not acceptable

Yoga guru Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurveda managing director Acharya Balakrishna appeared before the Supreme Court on Tuesday in the misleading advertisement case. Advocate Balbir appearing on behalf of Baba Ramdev said that this will not happen in future. Apologies for the earlier mistake. On that the Supreme Court said that not only the Supreme Court but the order of any court in the country should not be violated. The court did not accept Patanjali's apology. The court said that you have no idea what you have done. We will take contempt action. The case will be heard further on April 10. Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna have to be present in the court.

The hearing took place before a bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah. The court on March 19 asked Ramdev and Balakrishna to appear in person in the contempt proceedings related to advertisements of Patanjali Ayurveda products and their medicinal effects. The bench strongly objected to the company and Balakrishnan not filing a reply to the court notice issued earlier.

What did the court say during the hearing?

The Supreme Court told Ramdev's lawyer that you have no place to argue here. This has been allowed here except that there is no option of pleading in contempt cases, said Justice Hima Kohli, which has also happened before.

The lawyer said that Baba Ramdev and Balakrishna are present in the court. The Supreme Court asked whether an affidavit had been filed. The court said that we had earlier asked the company and the MD to file a reply. When a reply was not filed, a notice of contempt was served.

The Supreme Court said that an assurance was given on your part and then it was breached. This is an insult to the highest court in the country and now you are apologizing. This is not acceptable to us. Justice Hima Kohli said that you give the assurance here and then hold a press conference. Apologies now. How to accept this, how you violated. The Supreme Court said that your media department is not separate from you, why did you do this. You were warned in November, yet you held a press conference.

The Supreme Court expressed strong displeasure and said that it was not satisfied with Baba Ramdev's reply. The court said that we will proceed with contempt. Ramdev's lawyer said that we have apologized unconditionally. The court asked that you explain how the violation occurred. The court said that this is a serious matter. We do not accept your apology.
