In Hinduism, Mahashivratri, the main festival of Lord Shiva, is celebrated with great fervor every year. On this day people keep fast and worship with rituals to please Lord Bholenath. It is believed that when Lord Shiva was pleased with his devotees, he would bestow whatever boon he wanted, this was the reason why many times demons also got the desired boons by pleasing Lord Shiva and the demons misused such boons. Due to which sometimes even the gods were troubled by the demons. Once Lord Shiva himself got trapped due to a boon and a woman had to come forward to save him.

According to mythology, once a demon Bhasmasura performed penance to please Lord Shiva and Lord Shiva was pleased by his devotion. Lord Shiva expressed his pleasure and asked Bhasmasura to ask for the desired boon and Bhasmasura asked Mahadev to grant such a boon that anything he lays his hands on would be burnt to ashes. Mahadev gave that boon.

After this Bhasmasura was very happy to receive the boon and was leaving when he saw Mother Parvati on the way. Bhasmasura was so captivated by her beauty that he became eager to find her and followed her to learn about her. Later it is known that she is the wife of Lord Shiva. Seeing this he decided to use the boon given by Lord Shiva

Lord Vishnu was forced to dance

Bhasmasura went to use the boon given by Mahadev on himself, when Lord Vishnu saw that Bhasmasura was chasing Bholenath and Mahadev wanted to get rid of Bhasmasura. Lord Shiva hid in a cave to save his life from Bhasmasura. Then Lord Vishnu had an idea and appeared in front of Bhasmasura in the form of a woman assuming the form of a woman. Lord Vishnu charmed her and forced her to dance with him and she began to dance.

Thus ended Bhasmasura

Lord Vishnu assumed the form of Mohini and asked Bhasmasura to dance with her. When the woman began to dance with her infatuation, to kill the ravished Bhasmasura, Mohini danced and put her hands on her head and asked Bhasmasura to do the same as Bhasmasura placed his hands on his head. Immediately it was burnt to ashes. Thus God helped Mahadev.
